Spring Scrub Down

Now that winter is gone, spring is coming in full speed. While it gets warmer, rain will also be in the forecast. So, if you are staying indoors might as well start… SPRING CLEANING!

Cleaning is fun to some, but not to all. Yet, since winter blues and snows have melted, why not make your home a breath of fresh air? So, grab your disinfectant sprays, rags and gloves.

The sun is out longer, days are finally getting warmer. How about planting that garden, or a few of those flowers you have always wanted too? Imagine walking outside one day and seeing the bright, vibrant colors of your brand new blooms.

Although staying indoors may be where you are half the time, let us begin with the kitchen. Starting with a good wipe down of all windows, floors, stove tops, microwaves, tables, and especially your overused air fryers. Clean out your refrigerator by throwing out expired items and taking out shelves to give a good scrub. Do the same with your pantry and with the food/spices in every cabinet.

Family/living rooms with hardwood floors can be polished and your carpet and rugs can be steamed and vacuumed. The couch and recliners deserve to be free of crumbs and you might just find some spare change in there. Dusting is key in every room of the house: ceiling fans, floating shelves, picture frames, televisions, vases, books and all of those knick-knacks.

The dreaded bathrooms. Go in with a toothbrush in every crevice if you want, but really just mopping floors, scrubbing the bathtub/shower, sink, toilet, mirrors, and shelves will help. Throw away any expired and unused makeup, body/face and cleaning products. To spruce it up, change out towels and the shower curtain to liven up the look of your bathroom as well.

The bedroom is the sanctuary. Nothing is better than crawling into bed with fresh, clean sheets. So, start by stripping the bed and tossing everything into the washer. Switch out that fuzzy, heavy comforter to a lighter choice and throw some color on the bed with decorative pillows. Having a slight purge in the closet by donating old clothes and items is an idea too, but organizing it and the dresser drawers is good enough.

On days where it is sunny and 70 degrees, being outdoors is a must. Sitting out on your porch or patio would be ideal for days like those. If the porch is another place that is in need of a deep clean, start by sweeping and power washing it. If those tools do not help, replacing the floor boards could be the winning option. Lastly, put up some white, airy curtains and shake out the chair cushions to call it a day.

Getting to open up the windows and let in the fresh, spring air is rejuvenating. It is a new chapter now, and cleaning up your home is a perfect way to start it. Take it day by day, or hash it all out in a few hours. Regardless of what you choose to do, spring is upon us and brighter days are ahead.
